Changing Your Relationship with Alcohol: An Insight into 'One Year No Beer' with Ruari Fairbairns

In a recent episode of "The Man That Can Project", host Lachlan Stuart sat down with Ruari Fairbairns, co-founder of One Year No Beer (OYNB). This innovative program is designed to help individuals change their relationship with alcohol, and Fairbairns shared his personal journey and the philosophy behind OYNB.

Fairbairns' journey to sobriety was the catalyst for the creation of OYNB. He emphasized that the program isn't about promoting complete abstinence from alcohol. Instead, it's about helping individuals gain control over their drinking habits. OYNB offers different challenges, including 28 days, 90 days, and 365 days, and provides daily prompts and a supportive community to help participants stay on track.

During the podcast, Fairbairns emphasized the importance of community and connection in overcoming addiction. He discussed how OYNB is focused on creating tools and improving technology to deliver behavior change and build a supportive community. He also highlighted the importance of changing the narrative around alcohol, breaking down the societal norms and expectations associated with drinking.

The podcast also covered the psychological aspects of drinking, the power of changing neural pathways, and the importance of changing one's relationship with alcohol rather than just abstaining for a period. Fairbairns explained that most of OYNB's members choose to continue being alcohol-free after their challenge because they feel better and don't want to undo the progress they've made.

Towards the end of the podcast, Fairbairns discussed the upcoming launch of Challenge Plus, a next-generation program that offers smaller groups, multiple weekly Zoom sessions, and coaching. He also shared some of the reasons people join the program, which often include a desire for control over their drinking and concerns about the impact of alcohol on their lives.
